International conference 1-3 March 2024

Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory

 Off the Beaten Track

 Conservatorium van Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory, in collaboration with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, is pleased to announce an international conference where the focus will lie on themes that can be considered as ‘off the beaten track’ in the field of music theory. This can include historical, theoretical and/or analytical approaches to diverse repertoires, styles, genres, educational aspects, and performance practices. Other perspectives are also welcome. The Society feels it will be interesting and important to explore topics and approaches that may not be considered as ‘common practice’.

The Society welcomes all proposals in either lecture, lecture-recital or interactive workshop format.
We emphatically strive to include a broad spectrum of styles and genres in the programme. Lectures and workshops are to be held in English or Dutch. The duration of a lecture will be 25 minutes + 15 minutes for discussion. The duration of an interactive workshop will be 45 minutes.

Abstracts should be max. 250 words and should be suitable for publication in the conference programme. They should not contain the name of the author or any indications of the author’s identity.
Please include a short biographical note in a separate Word document (three to four sentences). All abstracts will be evaluated anonymously.

Abstracts and biographical notes should be sent by 1 November 2023 to DFSMT secretary Ralf Pisters at ralf.pisters@ahk.nl. You will be notified of acceptance no later than 1 January 2024.
